Britten (complete Canticles) & Schubert Part One

15 February 2013, 8:00pm - 9:40pm

Britten – Canticles One and Three
Schubert – “Auf dem Strom” and Schwanengesang (Rellstab settings)

This concert is generously supported by Jesus College & The Kohn Foundation

Tenor Daniel Norman is joined by an all-star team of musicians for a weekend of Britten and Schubert. This first concert features two of Britten’s Canticles, five extraordinary works that form the centrepiece of these concerts. Alongside these, we hear some of Schubert’s great creations from his final year; the settings of Ludwig Rellstab commonly known as the first half of Schwanengesang, and “Auf dem Strom”, also a setting of Rellstab, with its wonderful horn obligato.

The third Canticle ("Still Falls the Rain") is heard in its extended form, with readings of Edith Sitwell poems; our narrator will be the renowned actor Dame Harriet Walter.
