Britten: Winter Words & Sechs Hölderlin Fragmente
Songs by Schubert
This concert is generously supported by Jesus College & The Kohn Foundation
Mark Padmore is one of the great tenors of today. He and world-renowned pianist Graham Johnson continue our survey of Britten’s songs with one of his best-known song cycles, Winter Words, and his only significant foray into the German language, the haunting settings of Friedrich Hölderlin. A selection of Schubert songs, so close to Britten’s heart, completes the programme.
Graham Johnson played for many years for Peter Pears’ masterclasses and Mark Padmore has long been admired for his performance of Britten’s music, so we could not ask for two better exponents of these songs.
