Mendelssohn - Song without Words (Sturfält)

30 October 2009, 10:00pm

In this anniversary year, we hear a selection of Mendelssohn's most beloved piano works, the Songs without Words. These miniatures, which Mendelssohn composed throughout his life, contain some of his most beautifully crafted and heartfelt writing. Liszt's three Petrarch Sonnets complete what is sure to be a fascinating programme, in the very special atmosphere of New College Ante-Chapel.

Martin Sturfält enjoys a busy international career as soloist and chamber musician. His debut disc of Stenhammar piano works on Hyperion in 2008 was universally acclaimed, and he thrilled Oxford Lieder audiences last year with his late-night Messiaen and his recital with Giles Underwood.

This concert will last no more than one hour.
