23. Death and the Maiden: Doric String Quartet

Now established as one of the world’s pre-eminent quartets, the Doric Quartet makes a welcome return to the Festival to play Schubert’s peerless ‘Death and the Maiden’ quartet. Composed in 1824 the central set of variations takes the song 'Der Tod und das Mädchen' as its theme and the piece is widely regarded as one of Schubert's great chamber music masterpieces.
