Franz Schubert - Piano Sonata in A Minor D845
Adrian Lowe, Lay Clerk at Christ Church Cathedral, begins the music with Schubert's first song cycle, which revolves around the theme of unrequited love. The poet asks the stream to guide his heart, questioning the bitter-sweet pains of love. The Piano Sonata in A Minor D845, with its magnificent set of variations in the second movement, is one of the finest examples of the genre.
