Arts & Crafts: Part One
13 October 2017, 10:45am - 12:15pm
The Festival begins with a fascinating event linking fin-de-siècle Vienna and Oxford through the visual arts, exploring contemporaneous developments in the English Arts and Crafts movement and the Austro- German ‘Jugendstil’.
Beginning in the Holywell Music Room with a general introduction to the artistic thinking of the period, Antony Buxton leads a visit to Harris Manchester College Chapel, with its renowned Burne-Jones/Morris windows, then on to Exeter College Chapel to see the Adoration of the Magi tapestry. There will be short musical performances in each venue.
We will end at the Ashmolean Museum for those who wish to hear the Schools Project Concert before lunch. After lunch, the second part of this study event is a lecture given by Matthew Winterbottom in the Ashmolean Museum Lecture Theatre. Click here for further details and to book.
