James Gilchrist continues his Schubert song cycle series (postponed last year due to illness) and brings the Schubert weekend to a fitting close. Anyone at James’s performance of Winterreise at the ‘06 Festival will remember an extraordinary experience.
This wonderful work contains many of Schubert's finest and most memorable songs, taking the listener on a journey from the upbeat confidence of a young man striding out into the world for the first time, to his despair and eventual madness caused by his unreciprocated love for the miller's daughter, who barely notices him.
