Salomon Andrée’s doomed expedition to reach the North Pole by balloon was a disaster that captured the attention of the world, especially Sweden, both at the time in 1897 and at the discovery in 1930 of their final camp. This discovery uncovered remarkably detailed diaries and photos, movingly set to music by American composer Dominick Argento.
