At the start of the global pandemic in 2020, Roger Parker, Professor Emeritus of Music at King’s College London, embarked on some research into the 19th-century Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti and his work as a song composer. This research became an Indiana Jones-style quest to discover manuscripts scattered around the world and took him, among other places, to an Austrian monastery and the Bibliothèque Nationale in France, where he discovered more than 90 previously unknown songs.
