Laura Tunbridge introduces ‘Adelwold und Emma’ (Schubert’s longest song!), an early setting of Friedrich Bertrand, plus Schubert’s only other Bertrand song – ‘Minona’ – as well as the setting of Schiller’s ‘Hagars Klage’ (Schubert’s first complete song).   Crawford Howie, Chairman of the Schubert Institute UK, then discusses Schubert’s sacred music. There will be performances of the sacred music in services around Oxford throughout the Festival, and this talk will illuminate this often-overlooked part of Schubert’s prolific output.
