Florian Boesch & Roger Vignoles: Songs by Loewe, Schubert and Mahler
20 October 2011, 7:00pm - 8:30pm
7pm: Pre-concert talk given by Richard Stokes (free)
Florian Boesch makes a much-anticipated return to the Lieder Festival, after his memorable Winterreise in 2008. On this visit, with pianist Roger Vignoles, he again brings songs by Schubert, a composer with whom he is particularly associated. They also perform a selection of songs by Carl Loewe, a composer enjoying an overdue revival; a contemporary of Schubert (though he outlived the better-known composer by some 30 years), he was admired by Wolf and sometimes referred to as “the Schubert of the North” and wrote many memorable songs.
