Kathleen Ferrier Award Winner's Recital
24 October 2010, 7:00pm - 8:40pm
We continue our partnership with the Kathleen Ferrier Awards, the UK’s most presitigious singing competition, and are delighted to welcome Sarah-Jane Brandon, winner of the 2009 competition. Of her performance at the finals, the Independent wrote, “almost certainly one of tomorrow’s great divas… a born recitalist”, and the Telegraph described “a purity of pearly tone that nobody else came close to matching”.
With pianist Gary Matthewman, her programme includes Brahms’ ferociously energetic Gypsy Songs, Poulenc’s colourful settings of Louise de Vilmorin (including the famed “Paganini”), and some of Strauss’ most popular songs, including “Cäcilie” and “Morgen!”. The evening begins with a selection of Mendelssohn lieder, and ends with some Rachmaninov songs, perfectly suited to Sarah-Jane Brandon’s extraordinary voice.
