The closing concert of this year's Lieder Festival will be a fitting celebration of song, with a varied programme including songs by Schubert and Wolf, as well as a selection of Engligh and Scottish folk songs. Lisa Milne is an enduringly popular soprano - she very regrettably had to cancel her concert at last year's Lieder Festival, so we were extremely happy to find a date for this year on which to welcome her back (her last appearance was in 2004). Many people will remember Mark Stone's thrilling Mussorgsky Songs and Dances of Death which opened last year's Festival. Mark is also well known for his interpretations of Quilter, having recorded a double CD of the songs, and tonight we hear some truly stunning arrangements of traditional English folk songs by this most English composer. Both singers are accompanied by Oxford Lieder's artistic director, Sholto Kynoch.
Addendum: Rhona McKail (soprano) and Rowan Hellier (mezzo) subsequently took part in a changed programme at short notice, substituting for Lisa Milne, who was indisposed, and joining Mark Stone and Sholto Kynoch.
