Parry and the Art of the English Lyric: Jeremy Dibble

19 October 2018, 10:30am 18 December 2024 - 6:36pm

Jeremy Dibble, an acknowledged authority on Parry’s life and music, gives an introductory talk on this pre-eminent English composer and his major contribution to the song repertoire.

This starts a day that features a range of events marking the 100th anniversary of the death of Hubert Parry. One of Britain’s most significant composers and a fascinating, contradictory character, Parry’s influence on English music is sometimes neglected alongside the many composers he in fact helped to success.

Throughout the day, Festival goers are warmly encouraged to visit the Parry exhibition in the Bodleian Library’s Proscholium, which includes the Songs of Farewell manuscripts.
