Schumann – String Quartet no. 2 in F major (Op. 41 no. 2)

Korngold - String Quartet No. 3 in D major (Op. 34)

The Doric String Quartet continue their survey of Schumann’s three extraordinary quartets, which they are currently recording for the Chandos label. All three quartets were written in 1842, a year that was for Schumann’s chamber music what 1840 was for his songs. Schumann himself wrote; “You may rest assured that I have spared no pains to produce something really respectable – indeed, I sometimes think my best.”
