Wagner: Wesendonck Lieder and songs by Strauss & Wolf

19 October 2011, 12:10pm - 1:00pm

PLEASE NOTE: Julia Sporsén has replaced Louise Alder. The programme remains unchanged

Although he had a huge influence on the songwriters of his day and beyond, Wagner himself wrote few songs. Of these, by far the best known are his settings of Mathilde Wesendonck; five songs that show the composer working at small scale to great effect. Songs by Strauss and Wolf also complement the Wagner Study Day happening today. Renowned Swedish soprano Julia Sporsén is joined by pianist Elizabeth Burgess (who can also be heard with Marcus Farnsworth on Saturday 15th).
