On Sunday 3 April, LiedFest Berlin-Oxford presents an open-doors day of recitals, talks and more at the Kühlhaus Berlin. Non-stop music and talks will take place around the building from 11am to 6pm, with the cafe/bar open throughout. Entry is completely free, and people are welcome to drop in whenever suits them.
The Kühlhaus is an extraordinary space that was once an ice factory – and Europe's largest cold-storage unit – and has now been converted into an innovative arts and events centre. Artists for this open doors showcase include Ania Vegry (soprano) Lotte Betts-Dean (mezzo-soprano), Dietrich Henschel (baritone), Jan Philip Schulze (piano), Sholto Kynoch (piano) and Philip Ross Bullock (speaker), amongst many others.
The LiedFest Berlin-Oxford is a collaboration between Oxford Lieder and the Internationale Liedkonzerte Berlin that was launched in November 2021. It is jointly curated by Oxford Lieder's Artistic Director, the pianist Sholto Kynoch, and the founder of the Liedkonzerte Berlin, world-renowned baritone Dietrich Henschel. Building on their own friendship and collaboration, they have established a Festival that is a bridge between two song-loving institutions. This year's main LiedFest will take place in Berlin on 24-27 November 2022.
Admission for the showcase on 3 April is free. Full details at www.liedfest.com.
