Geselligkeit betreffend

Becher nicht von Fehden erzählt und nicht vom leidigen Krieg;

Regarding companionship
English translation © Richard Stokes

Let him not be my companion who does not, with a brimming beaker
Of wine speak to me of feuds and of distressing war!
But rather indulges me in convivial cheerfulness and happily
Prattles to me of the Muses and of Aphrodite’s lovely gifts.

My heart does not desire the Thracian goddess.

For I was born a drinker of wine.
