Liebe und Frühling I
German source: August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben

Wie sich Rebenranken schwingen
In der linden Lüfte Hauch,
Wie sich weiße Winden schlingen
Luftig um den Rosenstrauch:

Also schmiegen sich und ranken
Frühlingsselig, still und mild,
Meine Tag- und Nachtgedanken
Um ein trautes, liebes Bild.

Love and springtime I
English translation © Richard Stokes

As the tendrils of the vine
Sway in the gentle breezes,
As white bindweed
Airily twines round the rosebush:

So do my thoughts by day and night,
Spring-enraptured, silent and tender,
Nestle and twine round
A dear and lovely picture.
