Marssnön
Swedish source: Josef Julius Wecksell

Den svala snön därute faller
och täcker marken mer och mer,
De lägga sig de hvita stjärnor
i hvarf på hvarf längs jorden ner.

Håll slutet ån, o vår! ditt öga,
sov gott i blid och vänlig snö –
dess mäktigare skall du blomma,
dess rikare skall sen du dö.

March Snow
English translation © Daniel M. Grimley

The chill snow falls outside
And slowly covers up the ground,
It scatters the white stars
In a swirl upon the earth.

Close tight your eyes, o spring!
Sleep well amid the gentle snow –
the stronger then shall you blossom,
and richer shall you slowly die.
