A snow white maiden lives
On the fourth floor near the light of heaven;
That she is the fairest child in the town,
The fair child does not know.
They do not know – and far below
Walks one whose heart is breaking;
To the maiden and to the nightingale above
He sobs out his heart – they do not know it.
