ABRSM / Blackwell Event
22 October 2008, 5:30pm
A jointly promoted event to highlight the new ABRSM singing syllabus
Vanessa Williams, Manager of Blackwell Music, writes:
Blackwell would like to invite all singing teachers to a special event hosted jointly with ABRSM and Oxford Lieder Festival.
This event will enable teachers to learn new things about the ABRSM's singing syllabus, the decisions behind the selection of the pieces and detail of what examiners will be looking for in passable, meritable and distinctive performances in exams. This is an excellent opportunity for singing teachers to improve their own understanding of the requirements of the singing syllabus and that will be a bonus for pupils being entered for singing exams. On behalf of ABRSM, the presentation will be made by Ross Campbell who is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London, and the Mozarteum, Salzburg. He is in demand as a baritone soloist, coaches singers on several West End shows, trains students at the Royal Academy of Music, and is Head of Singing and Music at the Guildford School of Acting. Ross is a mentor for the CT ABRSM course, delivers lectures worldwide on behalf of ABRSM, and co-complied the ABRSM Songbook series.
There will also be opportunities to buy the newly published ABRSM Songbooks containing exam material for grades 1-5 of next years singing syllabus and other singing repertoire during the evening - don't forget that 10% discount is available on printed music purchases to music teachers when joining the Blackwell Music Teacher Discount scheme.
This presentation will take place on Wednesday 22nd October 2008, 5:30-7:30 at the Holywell Music Room, Holywell Street, Oxford.
Entrance to the event is free but you will need to book your place in advance - you may do this by telephoning Blackwell Music on 01865 333580 or e-mailing books.music@blackwell.co.uk.
Blackwell are delighted to link up with both the ABRSM and the Oxford Lieder Festival, both of whom are organisations who's work we respect and that we are excited to be supporting. Maybe a singing pupil of someone attending this teachers event in 2008 will also be performing at the Oxford Lieder Festival in years to come!
Oxford Lieder Festival can also offer tickets to their concert at 8pm on 22nd October (also in the Holywell Music Room) at a special price of £8 to teachers attending the ABRSM presentation. Tickets will be available on the door where you can claim your discount. Sarah Walker CBE introduces a concert featuring the participants of the 2008 master course.
