Der Rosenkavalier: Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment & Thomas Kemp

15 October 2017, 7:00pm - 8:45pm

This promises to be one of the Festival highlights: a film screening with live accompaniment from one of our great orchestras. Strauss’s peerless opera Der Rosenkavalier, set in Vienna, premiered in 1911. A silent-film version (not as rare as might be thought: find out more at our earlier study events) followed in 1926, and at the London premiere at the Tivoli Theatre on The Strand, Strauss conducted his own chamber-orchestra arrangement of a suite to accompany the film. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment perform this wonderful score, with a specially set-up big screen in the Town Hall showing the film. We are thrilled to present this delightful rarity: an unmissable occasion. Watch this trailer for the film:
