The ninth instalment in our project to perform and record the complete songs of Hugo Wolf. This programme includes the first six songs Wolf published (Sechs Lieder für eine Frauenstimme), of which he was justifiably proud, as well as the last songs he wrote, his stirring settings of Michelangelo.
The great bass-baritone Robert Holl makes his first ever appearance in Oxford; in the Michelangelo songs he is peerless and has sung them for many years to great acclaim. He is joined by German soprano Lydia Teuscher, who is currently performing at Glyndebourne, as well as baritone William Berger and tenor Thomas Hobbs.
We return to the lovely setting of St John’s Iffley Road and look forward to raising a glass with you in the interval!
