James Gilchrist, Anna Tilbrook & the Barbirolli Quartet

25 October 2011, 7:00pm - 8:40pm

7pm: Pre-concert talk given by Ian Partridge CBE (free)

Fauré, Britten, and Charlotte Bray’s Verre de Venise

James Gilchrist’s performances at the Lieder Festival are always sell-out events, thanks to his unique skills of communication and outstanding singing. Tonight will be no exception as he performs Fauré’s great cycle La bonne Chanson, in its rarely-heard version with string quartet.

He is joined by regular recital partner Anna Tilbrook, and the Barbirolli String Quartet, one of the finest quartets of its generation and together they will also perform Verre de Venise by Charlotte Bray, our Composer in Residence. The Barbirolli Quartet also plays Britten’s glorious first string quartet.
