Lunch with Schumann II

22 October 2009, 1:05pm

Our ever-popular lunchtime series this year sees a selection of the finest students from three of Britain’s most prestigious conservatoires offer wonderful all-Schumann programmes.

Katie Bray - mezzo-soprano

John Herford - baritone

Elizabeth Burgess - piano

Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856): Myrthen

This beautiful cycle was written by Robert Schumann as a wedding present to his wife Clara. Although not often performed in its entirety, Myrten includes many of Schumann's best-loved and most beautiful songs (Widmung, Die Lotosblume, Du bist wie eine Blume). This lunchtime concert is promoting two of the Royal Academy of Music's most promising song singers.  Elizabeth Burgess recently graduated from the RAM and, with baritone Marcus Farnsworth (performing with Song Circle on 21 October), has just won the prestigious Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation International Song Competition 2009.

Recital supported by Sarah Verney Caird and Elizabeth Wingfield

These concerts costs just £5 (tickets on the door only) and are a perfect interlude to an otherwise hectic day. The final lunchtime recital is on Thursday 29th.
