Franz Schubert - Winterreise D795
Like Die schöne Müllerin, Winterreise is also concerned with unrequited love, but here the pessimism is unrelieved. It was written in the year before Schubert's death, and the spirit of world-weariness, of longing for the quiet grave, hangs heavily over it. Maciek has recently returned from Bologna, where he performed the baritone solos in Fauré's Requiem.
