"Theatre of Song"

This evening's programme will feature a rich variety of composers from Mozart to Wolf, via Schubert, Schumann and Mendelssohn, in an exploration of Enlightenment ideals of declamation and gesture. The first half of the concert will include songs by late-eighteenth century composers Reichardt and Zelter, both friends of Goethe, and the songs will be semi-staged based on Goethe's Rules for Actors. As song approaches theatre, who knows what will happen?
