The Prince Consort - Zigeunerlieder

16 October 2008, 8:00pm

This concert is generously supported by The Helena Oldacre Trust

The Prince Consort is one of the most exciting vocal ensembles to emerge in the last few years. Graduates of the Royal College of Music, they are fast establishing a reputation for fresh and energetic readings of familiar repertoire as well as the championing of neglected works.

Their programme tonight is based around traditional gyspsy songs, as heard through the ears of great composers. Brahms Gyspy Songs (similar in many respects to Dvorak's songs, which can be heard the night before this concert) form the core of the programme, alongside some rarely heard gems by Liszt and Busoni, as well as Janacek's wonderful Diary of One who Vanished.

Hear Sholto Kynoch talking to Alisdair Hogarth, Artistic Director of the Prince Consort, about this evening's concert (in a north London Cafe!). (MP3, 6.4 MB)
