Wolf: Eichendorff Lieder - Grevelius / Stout / Kynoch

23 October 2007, 8:00pm

Hugo Wolf set 26 poems of Josef von Eichendorff, one of his favourite poets, and this will be a rare opportunity to hear all of them in concert. Eichendorff’s poetry is full of the sights and sounds of nature and often makes reference to music and musicians. This clearly had a great appeal to Wolf, and these songs contain some of his most imaginative and individual works.

Anna Grevelius appeared at last year’s Festival in a programme of Scandinavian songs that absolutely captivated the audience. Her future plans include her debut at English National Opera and a recording of Schumann and Wolf with Roger Vignoles. David Stout’s Schwanengesang at last year’s Oxford Song Evenings was also one of the highlights of the year and his recent performances at Grange Park Opera as Papageno in The Magic Flute have brought him critical acclaim. It is a pleasure to welcome back both of these outstanding singers, who will be joined by Oxford Lieder’s Artistic Director, Sholto Kynoch.
