The recital on Friday 6th May saw the release of our first disc in the series of the complete songs of Hugo Wolf on the new Oxford Lieder Live label, in association with Stone Records.
At the 2010 Oxford Lieder Festival, Sophie Daneman, Anna Grevelius, James Gilchrist and Stephan Loges recorded the complete settings of the Swabian poet Eduard Mörike - some of Wolf's greatest creations - over two concerts, the first of which is now released as Volume One ("a series of outstanding and revelatory performances by all concerned" - Seen and Heard). The pianist for the series is Oxford Lieder's artistic director Sholto Kynoch. Friday's concert will also be recorded for release later in the series.
No complete edition of Wolf's songs exists, so this is a landmark project. There are a considerable number of early songs that have never been recorded, so the chance to hear everything Wolf wrote in the genre both live and on CD is unique. Voluime One will be available for purchase at Oxford Lieder concerts at a special rate, and is also available on the website of Stone Records (click here) as well as on Amazon and other outlets.
We are very grateful to our syndicate of forty supporters for their support of the first two volumes in the series, and to Jesus College and the Kohn Foundation for their sponsorship of Friday's concert and recording. Anybody interested in supporting future volumes in the project is asked to contact info@oxfordlieder.co.uk. The total series is expected to run to some eleven discs over the next three years.
