Nervous, restless,
Yet I do not see
The one to whom I entrusted
My soul.
Never have I seen a man
Who lied more than the majo*
Who deceives me today;
But it won’t work for him,
For I have always been a resourceful woman
And, if it is necessary,
I will run without stopping,
After him, across the whole of Spain.
*in the 18th and 19th centuries, the term majo or maja was associated with a person from the working-class districts of Madrid, characterised by their air of freedom and bravado, in turn reflected in their bearing, actions, and appearance.

For two hours I’ve been wandering the streets,
