Text & Translation

Apró alma lehullott
Hungarian source: Traditional

Apró alma lehullott a sárba,
Ki fëlszëdi, nem marad hëjába,
Én fëlszëdëm, kimosom, eltëszëm,
S a rózsámat igazán szeretëm.

Cifra bunda szëgre van akasztva,
Szaladj rózsám akaszd a nyakamba,
Hagy járjuk el azt a csárdás táncot,
Fejérváron zërgetik a láncot.

From the tree a tiny apple fell
English translation © Anon.

From the tree a tiny apple fell,
He who finds it picks it up:
I pick it up, wash it, put it away.
I love my sweetheart so dearly.

A beautiful fur coat hangs there
My sweetheart hangs it round my neck.
We dance a gay csárdas,
But heavy chains rattle in Fejérvár.
