Der Kuß
German source: Christian Felix Weiße

Ich war bei Chloen ganz allein,
Und küssen wollt' ich sie.
Jedoch sie sprach, sie würde schrein,
Es sei vergebne Müh!

Ich wagt' es doch und küßte sie,
Trotz ihrer Gegenwehr.
Und schrie sie nicht? Jawohl, sie schrie,
Doch lange hinterher.

The kiss
English translation © Richard Stokes

I was with Chloe all alone,
And wished to kiss her:
But she said she would scream,
That it would be in vain.

But I dared to and kissed her,
Despite her resistance.
And did she scream? Oh yes, she screamed.
But not until long after.
