Frühlingsgruss
German source: August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben

So sei gegrüßt vieltausendmal,
Holder, holder Frühling!
Willkommen hier in unserm Tal,
Holder, holder Frühling!
Holder Frühling, überall
Grüßen wir dich froh mit Sang und Schall.

Du kommst, und froh ist alle Welt,
Holder, holder Frühling!
Es freut sich Wiese, Wald und Feld,
Holder, holder Frühling!
Jubel tönt dir überall,
Dich begrüßet Lerch und Nachtigall.

So sei gegrüßt vieltausendmal,
Holder, holder Frühling!
O bleib recht lang’ in unserm Tal,
Holder, holder Frühling!
Kehr in alle Herzen ein,
Laß doch alle mit uns fröhlich sein!

Spring Greetings
English translation © Richard Stokes

A thousand greetings to you,
Sweetest, sweetest Spring!
Welcome to our valley here,
Sweetest, sweetest Spring!
Sweetest Spring, wherever you be,
We salute you joyously with singing and rejoicing.

You come, and all the world’s happy,
Sweetest, sweetest Spring!
Meadow, forest and field rejoice,
Sweetest, sweetest Spring!
Jubilation everywhere:
Lark and nightingale greet you.

A thousand greetings to you,
Sweetest, sweetest Spring!
O stay a long time in our valley,
Sweetest, sweetest Spring!
Enter into every heart,
Let everyone rejoice with us!
