Kadunud ingel ('Lost Angel')
Estonian source: Karl Eduard Sööt

Rahu! Rahu!
Vaevalt paranesid vanad haavad, juba uutele ma andsin maad.

Lost Angel
English translation © Kai Rüütel

Peace! Peace! Screams my heart, peace! Shouts my bursting heart.
Where has peace gone, the angel of joy? I ask you, the golden apple of my eye.
Oh, how briefly he stayed with me – barely as long as the crane’s bill blossomed...
Sorrow doesn’t wait for snow to arrive, nor does grief for the flight of swans.
My old wounds barely healed, already to new ones I gave way.
New ones that are bloody and grave, will you, my soul, conquer them as well?
I feel how my blood lessens, how pale, tired I am...
And these wounds, bloody and grave, and this never ending pain!
