Oj po hori roman cvite 'Along a hillside camomile is blooming'
Ukrainian source: Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko

Oj, po hori roman tsvite,
Dolynoju kozak ide,
Ta u zhurby pytajet’sja,
De ta dolja pyshajet’sja?
Chy to v shynkakh z bahachamy?
Chy to v stepakh z chumakamy?
Chy to v pol’i na rozdoll’i
Z vitrom vijet’sja povol’i?

Along a hillside camomile is blooming
English translation © Natalka Pasicznyk and Bohdana Ravliuk

Oh, along a hillside camomile is blooming,
In the valley, a Cossack walks,
And of sorrow asks,
Where does that good fate exult?
Whether in taverns with rich people?
Or in the steppes with salt traders?
Or in the field on the expanse
Moving with the wind, gradually?
