Russian source: Afanasy Afanasyevich Fet

Skripi, noga,
Skripi, lipovaja!
I voda spit,
I zemlja-to spit,
I po selam spjat,
Po derevnjam spjat;
Odna baba ne spit,
Moju šerstku prjadet,
Moe mjaso varit,
Moju kožu sušit.

The bear's little song
English translation © Philip Ross Bullock

Creak, little paw,
Creak, lilac paw!
The water sleeps,
And the earth too,
People are asleep in the hamlets,
In the villages they are asleep:
Just one old woman is not asleep,
She is sinning my fur,
Boiling my meat,
And drying my skin.
