Noch'yu, 'Des Nachts', 'Night'
Russian source: Alexander Pushkin

Moj golos dlja tebja i laskovyj i tomnyj
Trevozhit pozdnoje molchan'e nochi tjomnoj.
Bliz lozha mojego pechal'naja svecha
Gorit; moi stikhi, slivajas' i zhurcha,
Tekut, ruch'i ljubvi, tekut, polny toboju.
Vo t'me tvoi glaza blistajut predo mnoju,
Mne ulybajutsja, i zvuki slyshu ja:
Moj drug, moj nezhnyj drug... ljublju... tvoja... tvoja!...

Night (1996)
English translation © Philip Ross Bullock

My voice, for you both tender and languid,
Disturbs the late silence of the dark night.
Near my bed a candle sadly burns;
My verses, merging and murmuring,
Flow, like streams of love, they flow, full of you.
In the gloom, and your eyes shine before me,
They smile at me, and I hear sounds:
‘My friend, my tender friend… I love you… I am yours… yours!...
