Zigeunerliedchen II „Jeden Morgen, in der Frühe“
German source: Emanuel Geibel

Jeden Morgen, in der Frühe,
Wenn mich weckt das Tageslicht,
Mit dem Wasser meiner Augen
Wasch’ ich dann mein Angesicht.

Wo die Berge hoch sich türmen
An dem Saum des Himmels dort,
Aus dem Haus, dem schönen Garten,
Trugen sie bei Nacht mich fort.

Jeden Morgen, in der Frühe,
Wenn mich weckt das Tageslicht,
Mit dem Wasser meiner Augen
Wasch’ ich dann mein Angesicht.

Gypsy Song II
English translation © Richard Stokes

Early every morning,
When daylight wakes me,
I wash my face
With the water from my eyes.

Where the mountains tower up high
On the horizon over there,
There from my house and lovely garden
They dragged me away by night.

Early every morning,
When daylight wakes me,
I wash my face
With the water from my eyes.
