Dietrich Henschel gives a complete performance of Brahms’ magnificent Die schöne Magelone, a fairytale adventure story of medieval chivalry. During this concert, Victoria Newlyn reads an abridged version of the novel by Ludwig Tieck from which Brahms drew the poems for his songs. Our rush-hour concert is given by the glittering Castalian Quartet, who perform Janačék’s Intimate Letters. In the evening, we welcome back Marie-Laure Garnier and Célia Oneto Bensaid with a typically ingenious and appealing programme that ranges from Britten to Piaf.
