Telling Lives

Wed 15 October

The world premiere of a new cycle by Cheryl Frances-Hoad is always an exciting moment. At lunchtime today, Neil Balfour performs Frances-Hoad’s Untold Lives, which sets letters from the British Library’s collection of letters and documents of Indian soldiers in World War One. In the afternoon, our annual composition workshop in partnership with the Faculty of Music gives a rare insight into the creation of new songs. Following a Young Artist showcase recital, the pre-eminent French baritone Stéphane Degout returns to the Festival with acclaimed pianist Cédric Tiberghien, for a programme that includes Schumann’s Liederkreis op.39.
