Today’s lunchtime concert, given by Oliver Johnston and Natalie Burch, includes music by Shostakovich, Britten and Mahler, as well as the first of today’s two world premieres by composer Elena Langer. In the afternoon, Philip Ross Bullock tells the story of Shostakovich’s life through the prism of his many songs. At rush-hour, we head to the North Wall for a storytelling event with the Crick Crack Club, recounting the Slavic legend of Baba Yaga. Our evening recital is also based on Baba Yaga, fusing music and dance in an extraordinary programme conceived and sug by Rowan Hellier, and choreographed by Andreas Heise, with a new work by Elena Langer alongside works by Handel, Dvořák, Mussorgsky and others.
