Travel with us to Ireland, the Emerald Isle. Our Young Artist showcase at lunchtime is full of music by Irish composers, as well as the words of Irish poets in settings by the likes of Berlioz and Schumann. In the afternoon, a discussion and concert highlight the appalling history of the Magdalene Laundries, with a new collection of songs by four Irish composers that set words of survivors of these abusive institutions. In the evening Soraya Mafi highlights her shared Irish and Iranian heritage, giving the world premiere of Book of Queens by our Associate Composer Emily Hazrati, as well as a selection of Irish songs. A superb day concludes with Irish folk music performed by award-winning duo Zoë Conway and John McIntyre.
