16. Music, Merriment & Mischief: An Introduction to the Catch Club
17 October 2022, 3:00pm - 4:00pm
What was a Catch Club, and what even is a catch? Ahead of tonight’s special event at Freud’s, Chris Price introduces these 18th century institutions, in which the norms of behaviour and respectability were relaxed and where an unusually wide range of songs - from love songs to political satire - was heard. Chris is a singer and conductor, and Director of Music at Canterbury Christ Church University where his research has taken him to the extensive archives of the Canterbury Catch Club. Live performances of some of the catches will illustrate his talk.
