The Korean tenor Tae Hwan Yun received his musical training at the University of Suwon and the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts. As an extremely successful participant in competitions, he won prizes at the International Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition in Vienna, was a finalist in the SWR Young Opera Stars - Emmerich Smola Award in 2020 and was awarded 1st prize in the "Das Lied" competition in Heidelberg in 2023.
After gaining his first stage experience as Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore in South Korea, Tae Hwan Yun was a member of the opera studio at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern from 2018-2020, where his roles included Belmonte in the children's version of Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Iskra in Mazeppa.
In 21/22 he appeared as Lord Cecil in Roberto Devereux at the Theater Passau and was a guest at the Opera Bonn as Don Riccardo in Ernani and as the 1. Mandarin in Franckenstein's opera LI-TAI-PE. At the Eutin Festival he made his debut as Goro in Madama Butterfly.
Tae Hwan Yun has been a member of the ensemble of the Opera Bonn since the 22/23 season, where his roles have included Lenzmar in Der singende Teufel, Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Jüngling/Nackter Jüngling in Moses und Aron, Truffaldino in Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen and, in the coming season, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte. He also made his debut as Maggiordomo and Abbate di Chazeuil in Adriana Lecouvreur at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, where he will return next season as Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte. In summer 2024, he will make his debut at the Salzburg Festival as the nervous Player in Prokofiev's The Gambler.
In addition to his busy opera career, he is particularly focussed on the German Lied and has recently given recitals at the Würzburg Song Festival and the Heidelberger Frühling. He will also be a guest at the Oxford International Song Festival in October 2024.
