60. The Shepherd on the Rock: Elin Manahan Thomas, Joseph Shiner & Jocelyn Freeman

One of Schubert’s last works, Der Hirt auf dem Felsen (‘The Shepherd on the Rock’) was commissioned in 1828 as a showpiece for the soprano Anna Milder and has remained a popular staple of the repertoire ever since. Renowned soprano Elin Manahan Thomas performs this, in a programme that also includes works by Rossini, other songs by Schubert, and Schumann’s Fantasiestücke for clarinet and piano.
