Klubitsa volnou ('Persian Song')
Russian source: Anon.

Klubitsa volnou kipucheu Kur,
voskhodit dnevnoje svetilo;
kak veselo serdcu, dushe kak legko!
O, jesli b naveki tak bylo!

Kubok polon moj, ja vpivaju s vinom
i bodrost', i radost', i silu;
oslepljajet menja chudnyj blesk ochej,
o! jesli b naveki tak bylo!

Vot noch' nastupajet, prirodu s nebes
svetom krotkim luna ozarila,
no i v mrake sijajet zvezda ljubvi,
o! jesli b naveki tak bylo!

Jesli khochesh' ty, chtob dusha moja
vsju ljubov' v tvoi ochi izlila,
skorej prikhodi zhe, temno v nochi,
o! jesli b naveki tak bylo!

Persian Song
English translation © Philip Ross Bullock

The river Kura wreathes in seething waves,
The diurnal orb ascends;
How joyful is my heart, how light is my soul!
Oh, if only it could be forever thus!

My cup is full, and as I drink the wine,
It brings me cheeriness, and joy, and strength;
I am blinded by the marvellous brilliance of your eyes,
Oh, if only it could be forever thus!

Night is now falling, and from the heavens,
The moon has bathed nature in a gentle light,
But in the darkness the star of love shines brightly,
Oh, if only it could be forever thus!

If you want my soul to pour out all of its love
Into your eyes,
Come quickly, the night is dark,
Oh, if only it could be forever thus!
