1829 - 1894Anton Rubinstein was a Russian pianist and composer, perhaps best known for founding the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. The Moscow Conservatory was founded by his younger brother, Nikolai Rubinstein. He gained fame as virtuoso pianist, and for his series of historical reciticals - seven consecutive concerts covering the history of piano music. He wrote 20 operas, 5 piano concertos, 6 symponies, and a several solo piano works. He was also Tchaikovsky's composition teacher.
