French baritone Benoît Déchelotte was recently Moralès and Dancaïre in Carmen, Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte (Les Escales lyriques), Escamillo in Carmen (St Pauls Opera), Belcore in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore (Longhope opera), Chairman Walsingham in A feast in time of Plague by César Cui (Oxford Opera Society), Le Cicérone in Paris, à nous deux! by Jean Françaix (Guildhall), Ben in Le Téléphone by Menotti and Valentin in Le Petit Faust by Hervé.
A Young artist of Oxford Song International Festival 2024-2025, he also took part in the Philippe Jaroussky Academy in 2022-2023. Awarded the Grand prize at the 2023 Competition les Maîtres du Chant, Benoît won the 2nd prize for men at the Concours international de Canari and 2nd prize at the Edith Poulsen Competition in 2023; 2nd prize for young artist at the 2022 Concours International des Jeunes Talents in Normandy. He was a finalist in the Vivonne competition in 2021.
Benoît trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where he graduated with a MPerf with Samantha Malk and Stephan Loges, after having studied with Marcin Habela. Various masterclasses have allowed him to meet Tobias Truniger, Kamal Khan, Julia Bullock, Richard Hetherington, David Gowland and Craig Terry. During his studies, he was a recipient of the prestigious bursary by the International Opera Awards Foundation. Benoît began studying piano at the age of 5 and then the organ with François Ménissier at the Rouen Conservatory, where he graduated in 2013. Finalist in 2017 at the Grand Prix Jean-Louis Florentz, he graduated with honours the same year in Eric Lebrun’s studio. He now performs regularly as a soloist or accompanist.
